At Holy Cross Catholic School, service is at the heart of who we are. Our commitment to helping others is reflected in the many ways our students give back to the community, fostering a lifelong dedication to service.
Different grades participate in unique service projects that allow students to engage with and support those in need, from collecting food for local pantries to making care packages for the unhoused.
In addition to these class-based initiatives, we also come together as a school-wide community to take on larger service projects, demonstrating our collective commitment to making a difference. Through these experiences, our students develop hearts of service, learning the value of compassion, responsibility, and faith in action.

As part of the Lenten season, students at Holy Cross Catholic School are demonstrating their commitment to service and charity through the annual 'Simple Meal' initiative. Following the call of Pope Francis to "give up, take up, and lift up," students are embracing the values of fasting, charity, and almsgiving to support those in need.
Students are invited to voluntarily give up their regular home lunches each Friday and take up a simple meal of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (or cheese for peanut-free classrooms), pretzels, and fruit. Through this small sacrifice, they will lift up others by contributing donations to students at St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Altadena, California.
The initiative takes on special significance this year as the community of Altadena continues to recover from the devastating Eaton Fire in January. While St. Elizabeth Catholic School itself was undamaged, many students and families in the area lost their homes, leaving a profound impact on the tight-knit, diverse, and hard-working community.
"Our students are learning that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference," said Principal Mr. Tagorda. "Through the Simple Meal initiative, they not only practice self-discipline but also develop a deeper sense of empathy and generosity."
For one week in Advent, the Traveling Crib finds its home outside the school office. Our school community generously donated diapers, wipes, toys, and clothes to support the Catholic Charities Pregnancy Support Program. The program coordinator has shared how impressive it is that we overfill the crib each year
Visit Catholic CharitiesThis fall, our 8th-grade students actively demonstrated their commitment to service by volunteering at the Oregon Food Bank, where they packaged pears for distribution. The Oregon Food Bank collaborates with over 1,400 food assistance sites, including pantries, meal sites, and delivery programs, to provide free, nutritious food to individuals and families across Oregon and Southwest Washington. Through their efforts, our students contributed to the organization's mission of ensuring food security for all, reflecting our school's dedication to fostering empathy and community involvement
